VIRGO VELASQUEZ

AUTHOR/ fILMMAKER/ aSSISTANT dIRECTOR

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to hard-working immigrant parents from Central America, Virgo has been passionate about the craft of filmmaking and the liberal arts since his youth. Starting film work in the Winnipeg experimental scene, Virgo works in the Ontario Film and TV industry as an assistant director.

Virgo has written and directed an award-winning feature film, "Ronnie's Quest" released in 2020 and self-published his first book, "World War Bee" in 2021. His second fantasy book, "Saturn's Gate" released in Spring 2024.

Virgo’s filmmaking style is influenced by North American cinema, in particular the 1970s and 2000s. His favorite movies include “Network” (1976) & pop culture hits like “Back to the Future Part II” — His writing style is influenced by such writers as George Orwell, Shane Black and Quentin Tarantino.

Working as an assistant director in the DGC-Canada has also influenced his directing approach, with a keen eye for scheduling, logistics and blocking based on geography.

His show credits include television series and feature films for Netflix, ABC, CBC, APTN, CW & Paramount.

STEEVEN K. SAMPASSA

fILMMAKER/ TEACHER

Steeven K. Sampassa, who also professionally goes by Steeven K. is multifaceted artist with a focus on filmmaking and screenwriting.  Coming to Canada (Ottawa) from the Democratic Republic of Congo at an early age, Steeven has put forward great strides as a filmmaker and was a recent recipient of the Telus/ Storyhive grant, producing his first pilot; Tommy and King, currently streaming on OptikTv. Besides the countless narrative projects and festival selections, he's also shown a great ability to translate his skills into various formats, helping to structure and develop shows for production companies and smaller content creators.

When it comes to acting, Steeven is also a working actor with credits on multiple projects and commercials, receiving his training in Vancouver.   Steeven has always had a sensitivity and respect for the craft of actors. Being known as a “Actor’s Director” believing that the greatest special effect is a great performance. He’s built a reputation for his ability to create a safe environment for talent at any level and bring the best performance out of them. He currently runs Waterfront Studios, a monthly acting workshop in Ottawa. Focusing on building a healthy environment where actors can challenge and prepare themselves with the well-equipped toolkit to not only survive in the industry but really maximize and grow their unique talent. He focuses on actor’s finding their authenticity within themselves and trusting their instincts, while also understanding how to work with their collaborators and explore the nuances in of a scene.
